For years I have wondered about the strange netting, ropes and posts which appear on the field between the city and St Catherine's Hill.

Today I saw a major game, between OTH and Commoners (groupings of houses) with fifteen boys on each side cheered on by the rest of the school as well supporters from St Swithun's school.

The game is a unique combination of football (played with a round ball) but with scrums but no goals or high barred posts. The rules have evolved over many hundreds of years but "our game" is just that: only to be found, or seen in Winchester College. To an outsider the rules are quite unfathomable, and it has a terminology all of its own.
